Online Pedagogy

The underlying premise of this research is that the effective design of online courses and learning experiences depend on the understanding of how individuals learn online - including how their minds work, how they take in and process information, and how their emotions and intentions influence their learning e.g. how they think they will be assessed.

What this means to me is that online course design will be more effective when it is based on the nature of human learning rather than on the technology used.

By the end of the research, I hope to be able to offer a simple methodology as well as practical suggestions for designing and implementing online learning experiences based on a reflexive, e-learning pedagogy which is consistent with how learners actually learn online.

How does learning take place?

Some initial thoughts:

Aim to find out how humans learn in order to discover how to teach.

Every human being has a natural, inherent desire to learn that - never dies, can be awakened and can flourish.

Is the sheer interest in learning enough for people? Does knowledge keep them interested?

People will learn when they are relaxed and in a pleasant frame of mind. Therefore, eliminate anxiety and tension for people to be completely receptive to learning. People do not want to expose themselves or face what they think are their own inadequacies.

With the positive experience of learning comes the enjoyment of learning.

How can we ensure that the learning experiences we deliver to learners are enjoyable and interesting?
